Nursing Home Business Plan

Nursing Home Business Plan

Opportunity

Problem

There is a lack of full-time assisted living facilities available that offer skilled and respectful care to residents. There aren’t enough short-term medically skilled care facilities in Connecticut for patients with disabilities.

Solution

Bright House seeks to be the home for 14 fortunate full-time assisted-living residents. They offer skilled nursing care as well as medically-skilled assistance in a caring, self-sustaining environment. Bright House is a beautifully renovated 6 acre property, the former Wayfield Bed and Breakfast. It is located in Middletown CT, a small college town. Bright House brings together decades worth of experience and alternative visions for the potential in our older family members’ latest years.

Market

The Baby Boomers’ aging is a well-known, and often discussed, fact. This population, which includes many who helped create the counter-culture of 1970’s and 1960’s, is becoming more aware of the options that are available to them as they age. Fortunately, much like the American Association of Retired Persons (formerly known under the American Association of Retired Persons), elder-care alternatives based on the Eden Care model are being created.

Residents’/Patients’ Needs

Our own experience, based on years of caring for elderly patients, is that people seeking assisted living care and skilled nursing care have many of the same needs:

  • To be treated with dignity and respect
  • To be active in a group of people
  • To participate in their/her own treatment plan and living arrangements
  • To be cared for by skilled, medically-knowledgeable clinicians and caregivers, working as a team

It may seem that our list is in the opposite order of that of many nursing homes. This is not an accident. Most of the elderly in our country are not aware that their needs are being met by the billing system.

Families’#8217 Needs

Families of individuals seeking care environments are also looking for their needs to be met.

  • Peace of mind about their loved-ones’ physical and mental state
  • It’s a relief from the hard work of caring for family members.
  • They can find relief from their guilt when they realize they don’t have the resources or the mental capacity to provide the appropriate care for the people they love.

Families seeking care must be aware of the fact that there is a big unstated problem. This is the feeling of being a bad spouse or daughter, or son, or daughter who is unable or unwilling to sacrifice her own life to care for a loved family member. Bright House is not here to negate this feeling. However, we are here to assure families that their decision to allow us to take care of a family member is loving, kind, generous.

Competition

Families looking for nursing home care have many options. There are in-hospital recovery centers and for-profit chains as well as specialized care for people living with AIDS, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes. The specialized care facilities, which are usually nonprofit, and offer individualized nursing care, come closest to our care model, but are usually reserved for people with a particular ailment in need of intensive medical assistance.

Why Us?

Bright House promotes dignity, self-worth, and a high quality lifestyle for residents. We encourage residents to participate in decision-making by the House Councils. Residents also have access to all areas of Bright House. They can also choose their own activities, socialization and food preferences. Bright House is not just a caregiving facility–it is their home, and their community.
