Kingfishers offers supplies, guided tours, and fishing/hunting lodges to anglers and hunters who come from all over the country. We are centrally located in the middle of this famous area, on Highway frontage on one of the busiest highways. We are in a prime location to succeed, as we make an excellent base camp and meeting place.
Ausable Wulff, Brassie Nymph, and Brassie Nymph will be the new owners of a moderately successful fly shop. They will remodel it, repackage it, and turn it into a popular destination for fly fishermen across the south.
Our competitive advantage has been enormous. We are able to offer a great edge in advertising because of our location, our advertising methods, and unique customer ‘#8220’interest points. This expertise allows us to stock the best available supplies and offer expert advice to ensure that our customers have a memorable fishing experience. We are able to turn novice fishermen into regular customers by our friendly and supportive approach. We also offer lodging at affordable rates. We are on the the travel route between 4 major blue ribbon rivers, and the single most famous Trout River in the world. Our location, the atmosphere in our store, and our attitude are the keys to our success.
This plan will detail what the business needs in order to start a successful venture. We also plan on how we plan to do it. Even if conservative projections are used, it shows that the company will have positive cash flow, huge gross margins of more than 50%, steady/solid growth, and tremendous net income. Our first year will be a little profitable, but our profits will increase steadily. Our projections are calculated based on past performance under the previous owner. He freely admits that he hasn’t maximized the profits potential of his business. We will surpass the industry standard in nearly all aspects based on these conservative projections.
Sixteen thousand dollars has been contributed by the owners to finance the purchase and renovation of the business. We also want a 10-year loan in the amount of $513,000 that is secured by 3 houses as collateral, at 8% interest.
1.1 Objectives
We have several key objectives to complete to bring the business back to the level of success experienced in the past, and then maximize the revenue and profitability for today. Our objectives are:
- Advertising and Web presence can double the number customers who walk through the doors each year. It also increases customer traffic by 20% every year for five years.
- Remodeling the retail space to increase floor sales by 30% and re-merchandising products in flow patterns will make it more customer- and ‘#8220’-friendly.
- To take full advantage of all revenue sources in the geographic area by offering Hunting products to the substantiated large number of hunters in the area during the fall and winter months, increasing revenue by at least 25% the first year, 33% the second year, and 40% the third year.
- In order to reinstate the guide service for anglers bookings must be at least 125 trips in the first year with 1 employed guide and 1 independently contracted guide. 250 trips will be made the second year using 1-2 employed and independently contracted guide. 300+ trips will be made the third year using independent contracted and 1-2 employees guides under the Kingfishers Outfitters’′ License. We will rent 2-3 driftboats to anglers who are able to do without professional guides.
- To gain market share, increase revenues and grow current revenues 50-60% through offering quality lodging at competitive prices in the best location possible for anglers or hunters. To achieve this we would build five custom log cabins, with one additional cabin each year starting in year 3. By doing this we will increase revenues of both guide trips/product sales and lodging, as each aspect will complement the other.

There are four keys to success for the retail Fly Shop and Hunting Store businesses:
- Location We are centrally situated and within minutes to 5 major Trout Runs and 4,000-square miles of public lands. We are located on the main highway linking Yellowstone National Park with Glacier National Park. This highway also leads to one our state’s most popular tourist attractions.
- Quality/Variety: We offer both high-quality and affordable products for anglers and hunters. This shop also offers unique products and services.
- Atmosphere Our store was built in a historic log building. This symbolises our state and the values we hold dear. It’s a large, comfortable space with a welcoming atmosphere. This makes it easy to sell without stress.
- Visibility/Marketing: Kingfishers is located on one of the busiest highways in the southwest portion of our state. During the spring, summer, and fall months, 3000-4000 vehicles pass the store daily. We will use both active (direct mail commercials etc., as well as passive (billboards etc.) advertising to bring customers in from both within and beyond the state.
