Skateboard Gear Retail Business Plan
Burly Skate Shop is a new apparel, shoe and skateboarding shop that caters to the youth and young adults in the Salem/Suburb community. Our aim is to provide high quality apparel, shoes boards and accessories in a industrial chic setting. Our store will be a showcase for the latest trends and cutting-edge products. We expect to be, and will strive to position ourselves as, the top retail store servicing this particular market.
Suburb’s original and only skateboard shop. Suburb skaters have complained about the quality of local retailers. Our intentions are to obtain 80% market share and become a central hub of shopping activity for the local skateboarding population, as well as for others who would enjoy wearing the latest trends and fashions. Burly will locate at 1234 Skate Rd N Suburb Oregon. This puts us right in the heart of the social and residential areas used by our target market. This is where we believe our first success and long-term growth will be possible.
Ollie Casperflip and Nollie Casperflip will own and manage Burly. Nollie Casperflip has been the merchandising manger for the past 18-years and is currently the Executive Director for Operations at a foster care and family advocacy group. Nollie has two Masters Degrees. She also taught for nine years at a local college. Ollie Casperflip was the Executive Director at Administrations for the foundation for the last 11 years. He is a personnel and marketing supervisor. Ollie Casperflip, who has a Masters degree in Administration, is an avid skateboarder. Both of their owners have extensive experience in working with people between 12 and 25 years old. Aside from raising their son (an ex-skateboarder), Casperflips’#8217 work in foster-care brought them into daily contact and interaction with parents and children that age.
Our conservative sales forecasts, based on solid market research, will yield a net profit over $6,000 in the first year, increasing to almost $20,000 in year three. To help support this plan, the owners contributed $5,600 in cash and $1,200 to short-term assets. We are seeking an additional $50,000 in short-term loans, to be repaid over three years, to cover our start-up requirements.
1.1 Mission
Burly’s mission is to provide the highest quality, cutting edge, and newest merchandise in an industrial-chic atmosphere where they can meet, socialize, and learn from each other about the latest trends and moves. Our intention is to enhance the skateboard culture in our communities, by promoting drug-free and violence-free events in our communities.
Success Keys 1.2

- PROVIDE customized services such a grip application in-store, and tools for fixing and applying newly purchased parts. Customers can be retained to make repeat purchases and to send their friends.
- COMMUNICATE with our customer base through print magazine, newspaper advertising, and postcard mailings promoting skateboarder events, bringing in pro and semi pro skaters sponsored by manufacturing companies. Another avenue for marketing is our website.
- ESTABLISH a dynamic, visible, accessible and friendly website and storefront that positions us as the best choice for products and services in the marketplace and beyond.
- Ensure that Burly’s values are followed through every day management practices so that a growth-oriented and successful business can be developed.
